Lost Towns of North Georgia

Seventy-eight-year-old Eliza Brock was wielding a shotgun and warning men off her property when contractors came to clear her land for the creation of Lake Hartwell.

Schoolboys were brought in by the bus load to disinter graves for the creation of Lake Chatuge.

North Georgia has more than forty lakes and not one is natural. The state's controversial decision to dam the region's rivers for power and water supply changed the landscape forever.

Lisa M. Russell, author of Lost Towns of North Georgia, UNDERWATER GHOST TOWNS OF NORTH GEORGIA, and the forthcoming LOST MILL TOWNS OF NORTH GEORGIA, tells the stories of people who had to leave behind their homes and the forgotten places that lie beneath the sparkling waters.

Meet Ms. Russell in a special presentation and book signing at the Hampton Park Library on Sunday, September 15 at 2:00 p.m.

Admission is free and limited copies of Ms. Russell's books will be available for purchase.
